The Main Shuttlebay is the primary facility where shuttlecraft are launched received maintained and stored aboard a starship. Shuttlecraft launch and recovery is facilitated by the use of forcefields that replace the heavy space doors during operation. The forcefields prevent depressurization of the bay as the forcefield and shuttle are synched to allow the craft to pass through the field. Recovery operations are usually handled by a series of tractor beams that latch on to the craft to bring it in. Manual landings are not unheard of though they usually occur in emergency situations. |

The Sovereign-Type Shuttles were designed specifically to be used with the new Sovereign-class starships. They are more aerodynamic than most shuttles allowing for better maneuvering during atmospheric operations. The shuttle possesses standard defensive weaponry in the form of four type-VI Phaser arrays and deflector shields. Access to the shuttle may gained via aft ramp or any of two standard docking collars mounted on the dorsal and ventral surfaces. Poseidon carries two of these, the USS Stingray and USS Orca. |

Built originally for the Defiant-class starship, the type-10 shuttlecraft has started to find a home among many of the Fleet's frontline vessels. Based in part on the Defiant design itself, the shuttle is armored and bears the same shielded warp nacelles as its parent vehicle. The Type-10 carries a maximum crew of 4 and is used primarily for hazardous flight duties due to its rugged design. The Poseidon carries two of these, the USS Harpoon and USS Devilfish. |

The Argo-class shuttle was initially designed
as a heavy shuttle useful for transporting large cargo and vehicles
when transporter use might be considered hazardous. Poseidon's Argo-class
shuttle, the USS Corsair has been fitted to carry fore and aft
portside mounted phaser cannons for ground support of Poseidon's Away
Teams when necessary. The extendable wings allow for more stable atmospheric
flight and tighter maneuvering during ground support operations.
