The Quantum Torpedo represents the first replacement Starfleet heavy weapon since the development of the Photon Torpedo in 2268. Starfleet forsaw the need for a new defensive stand-off weapon due an increase in threat force activity in the Alpha and Beta Quadrants as well as the existing Borg Threat. Starfleet Research and Development theorized that applying a zero-point vacuum device could lead to a stand-off weapon with a yield of near three times that of the existing Photon System. In early 2355 Starfleet R&D tested the first zero-point warhead after nearly a decade of theoretical research. The Quantum Torpedo is constructed of high density tritanium and duranium foam. The unit possesses a tapered forward end for better flight profile in atmospheric applications. The Q Torpedo has an ablative armor skin which has been bonded to an anti-radiation coating for better protection of its internal components. The torpedo has a minimum of surface penetrations to make the unit as EM-silent as possible. This makes the Q-Torpedo very difficult to counter once launched. The Zero-point warhead is actually a combination of a high-yield photon warhead and the zero-point reaction chamber. The photon warhead is detonated which in turn causes the zero-point chamber to release its continuum-twist energies. The weapon yields an explosive force of near 53 isotons upon detonation. The weapon is controlled by an FTL Bio-Neural Gel Cylinder surrounded by a thoron web to counter threat force electronic countermeasures. Quantum Torpedoes are expensive to manufacture with more then 50% of the current production run being allocated to Deep Space Nine. The remaining 50% have distributed to DSTE vessels such as Poseidon and other frontier assets. |

If the crew of a starship is the very heart of her operation then there is no doubt that the Main Computer System is the brain. The Main Computer is responsible for nearly every operation aboard the ship. The computer is accessed through the Library Computer Access and Retrieval System or LCARS for short. This powerful software system allows for access through both keyboard and verbal interfaces. The system is a marvel of Artificial Intelligence and provides the crew with easy-to-use graphic displays. The USS Poseidon possesses three Computer Cores, two cores in the primary hull and a single core in the Engineering section. Each of these cores can handle the full operational computing load of the entire vessel. The Computer Cores aboard the Poseidon incorporate Bio-Neural systems. Each Core is parallel clock-synced which provides 100% redundancy should either Core be disabled. The third Core provides a backup should the first two Cores become disabled. Each computer core has its own Subspace Field Generator, which allows the computer to process and transmit data at Faster-Than-Light speeds. The Main Cores are directly tied to the Poseidon's Optical Data Network (ODN) by a series of junction links. There is a backup set of links running through protected conduits should the main links be severed. In the event of a near total loss of the ODN system the Poseidon has a short-range radio frequency link directly from the Main Computer to Bridge. |

The Field Duty Jacket is a new and experimental uniform addition for Starfleet. The concept dates back to the earliest days of Starfleet. The current Field Jacket was designed with protection in mind. The Dominion War illustrated the lack of protection offered by the standard Starfleet Uniform. The Field Jacket contains an inner layer of Ballistic Cloth sufficient to stop most handheld ballistic weapons. The surface layer is a tight weave of ablative fiber offering greater protection from energy-based weapons. The jacket bears the departmental color of the wearer with the commbadge placed in the traditional position. |

The Poseidon's Armory houses the majority of the starship’s handheld weaponry. This secure area coupled with several key storage spaces throughout the ship, allows quick access to defensive weapons during emergencies. Phaser Pistols, Phaser Rifles, Isomagnetic Disruptors, and Portable Shield Generators are a few of the items that are stored here. The area itself has a dedicated Transporter System that is secure from the Poseidon’s General Transporters. The Armory is also surrounded by a full-time Transport Inhibitor to prevent personnel and or items from being beamed in or out without proper authorization. |

The Poseidon, like her sister ships, is equipped with a Regenerative Shield System. The RSS is the first overall advance in Deflector Shield Technology in almost a century. The system like its predecessors provides the starship with protection from kinetic, and radiant energies with the added advantage of leeching energy from the ‘aggressor’ energy source for distribution through the shield grid. This is achieved through the use of a series of capacitors tied into the defensive shield grid. The capacitors store the transferred energy, which is then fed into the shield generators. The RSS has increased the survivability of Sovereign-Class starships and will soon be employed on all frontline Starfleet vessels. |
